Crazy for acorns

This was back in 2004, before surgery on both of his hind legs for torn cruciate ligaments, one of which came from this little sport.

We used to roll big juicy acorns down the road or driveway, and Frito would go tearing after them.

Frito was fast, and quick, and able to shift directions quickly no matter how the acorn bounced.

This quick direction change is was did his leg in.

But boy how he loved his acorns. He used to catch them in his mouth and crack them open. And then wait for us to throw him another one. You can see one of his acorns next to him.

Frito was an awesome athlete.

Say -- what's this?

Oh, I remember. It's an acorn. I used to get these all the time when I was a pup. Mom and Alpha would throw them down the street and I'd chase after them, zigging and zagging, and then leap into the air to catch them.

And then I'd chomp on them to get at the nut.

But alas, this game had to stop after I had my first cruciate ligament blow-out. One time, I guess I zigged when I should have zagged :-( That was a bummer.

Sure does bring back some fun memories, though.
